Dr Yincent Tse on episode 2 of our College Strategy podcasts

Dr Tse, our North East England area officer, shares his thoughts on episode two of our College Strategy podcast series discussing the changing landscape of a career in paediatrics, featuring VP for Education and Professional Development Dr Jonathan Darling.

As the RCPCH North East England member鈥檚 voice, I listened to the recent College Strategy podcast and here is what I learnt.

Jonathan wants the College mantra to be 鈥榣ifelong careers, lifelong learning鈥.

I learnt we have been running a popular #ChoosePaediatrics multiprong campaign. Whatever our personal views of paid social media, it seems to be paying dividends - recruitment fill rates to ST training have improved in the last three years. We are nurturing medical students to be aspiring paediatricians, as well as partnering with Soft Landings to help international medical graduates.

Members鈥 time is important so I was encouraged to hear the college is widening its continuing professional development (CPD) offering. The move to the new eLearning platform, RCPCH Learning, will enable more quality online courses.

Encouragingly, there will be something for the established consultants. Funded by the Dinwoodie Foundation, a postgraduate healthcare charity, two outputs are planned. The first akin to the staff wellbeing agenda many of us are seeing locally, 鈥渁 series of statements about what good looks like in our paediatric workplaces.鈥 A second strand is creating WINs, wellbeing and innovation networks, 鈥渞egional communities providing hubs of professional support and guidance and innovation.鈥 Like the recent relaunched re-energised annual conference in Liverpool, face to face regional meetings have always been great fun - post-covid more the merrier please.

Have a listen to Jonathan, and get involved.
